Error: "Setup has detected Windows is running in Safe Mode..." or "Unable to uninstall your Norton product..." when I install or uninstall Norton Anti-Theft

The error "Setup has detected Windows is running in Safe Mode..." appears when you install or uninstall Norton Anti-Theft on Windows running in Safe mode. Norton Anti-Theft cannot be installed or uninstalled in Safe mode. Restart your computer in normal mode, and then uninstall or reinstall Norton Anti-Theft.

If you see the message "Unable to uninstall your Norton product. Please visit the tech support link...", it is caused due to Intel AntiTheft deactivation failure. To fix this problem, do the following:

Unregister the device from Norton Anti-Theft

  1. Sign in to the Norton Anti-Theft website with your email address and password.

  2. In the left pane, under My Devices, click the name of the device that you want to remove.

  3. Next to the device name., click the Remove Device icon.

  4. Click Delete to confirm.

Wait till the Norton Anti-Theft icon in the system tray turns red.

  5. Exit all the programs and restart your computer.

After you restart the computer, uninstall Norton Anti-Theft.

Thank you!
