Norton AntiVirus system requirements

These are the system requirements for the current version of Norton AntiVirus. If you have an older version or if you do not know your product version, go to Norton Update Center.

System requirements

To successfully install Norton AntiVirus, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements

Operating systems

    • Microsoft Windows® 10 (All versions except Windows 10 S)

    • Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 (all versions). Some protection features are not available in Windows 8 Start screen browsers.

    • Microsoft Windows 7 (all versions) with Service Pack 1 or later

    • Microsoft Windows Vista (all versions) with Service Pack 1 or later*

    • Windows XP (all 32-bit versions) with Service Pack 3 or later*

*Your Norton client security software will no longer receive the new product updates that the customers on supported versions of Windows (Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7) will receive. However, your Norton client security software will continue to receive the latest malware definitions by LiveUpdate, vulnerability updates, and compatibility fixes. Identity Safe browser extension is no longer supported on Windows Vista and Windows XP. For more information, read Norton Maintenance Mode for Windows XP and Windows Vista.

    • For Windows XP: 300 MHz

    RAM

    • For Windows 10: 2 GB (minimum of 512 MB RAM required for Recovery Tool)

    • For Windows 8/7: 1 GB (minimum of 512 MB RAM required for Recovery Tool)

    • For Windows Vista: 512 MB

    • For Windows XP: 256 MB

    Hard disk space

    • 300 MB of available hard disk space

    • Microsoft Internet Explorer® 8.0 or higher (32-bit and 64-bit)1,2

    Browser Support for Phishing Protection, Safe Search, and Password Management

    The browsers listed below are supported for Phishing Protection, Safe Search, and Password Management.

    • Mozilla Firefox® (32-bit and 64-bit)2

    • Google Chrome™ (32-bit and 64-bit)2

    • Microsoft Edge®3

    Email services

    Norton AntiVirus supports email scanning on all POP3 and SMTP compatible email services.

  • 1 Some protection features are not available in Microsoft Internet Explorer 10.0 or later.

    2 As made available by Symantec within your service period.

    3 Only Password Management feature is supported.
