Locking a device

When your device is lost or stolen, you should lock your device using the Norton Anti-Theft website. When you lock your device, Norton Anti-Theft does the following actions simultaneously:

  • Locks your device to prevent unauthorized access to your personal information.

  • Monitors your device location every five minutes, thereby tracking your device with a higher degree of accuracy.

  • Starts automatically taking pictures from your device.

When you lock a device, Norton Anti-Theft prompts you to create an unlock code. When the device is recovered, you can use the unlock code to unlock the device. You can also sign in to the Norton Anti-Theft website to unlock your device. Unlocking your device from the Norton Anti-Theft website does not require the unlock code.

Norton Anti-Theft lets you create a personal message that is displayed on your device's screen. For example, you can provide a warning message that this device is stolen or provide details as to who to contact in the case of it being lost.

If you lock a device, and you have not recovered the device after seven days, the status is automatically changed to Found. If you still want to continue tracking it as lost, you must click Lock Device button manually to change the status again to lost mode.

The advantages of this standard lock device option are:

  • You can track the device location even after you lock the device.

  • You can see the person who currently uses your device.

To lock your device

  1. Sign in to the Norton Anti-Theft website.

  2. In the left pane, under My Devices, click the name of the device.

  3. On the page that appears, click Lock Device.

  4. In the window that appears, click Confirm Lock.

  5. In the window that appears, in the Unlock code box, type an unlock code.

Unlock code is case-sensitive and should be alpha-numeric. It must be from 4 through 20 characters in length.

  6. In the Retype unlock code box, type the unlock code again.

  7. In the personal message box, type a message.

  8. Click Lock This Device.
