Error: "There is a backup problem. Make sure the destination drive or device is connected..." appears when I run a backup to a local storage media using my Norton product

These steps are for the current version of the Norton products. If you have an older version or if you do not know your product version, go to Norton Update Center.

This problem occurs if your backup set has become corrupted. To fix the problem, chat with Norton Support or continue with the troubleshooting steps.

STEP 1

Create a new backup set

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Under Detailed Settings, click Backup Settings.

  4. Next to Manage Backup, click Configure.

  5. On the Summary tab, under Things you can do, click Create new backup set.

  6. Type in a name for your new backup set, and then click OK.

  7. On the What tab, check the drives or My Documents under Backup Sources, from where you want to back up your files or folders.

  8. Under File Types, select the file categories that you want to back up.

    If you do not want to backup any particular category, uncheck it. To add additional files or folders, click Add or exclude files and folders, and then click Include File or Include Folder to select the files or folders.

  9. On the Where tab, make sure that you have selected the correct destination.

  10. Click Save Settings.

  11. Click Run Backup.

STEP 2

Delete your old backup set

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Under Detailed Settings, click Backup Settings.

  4. Next to Manage Backup, click Configure.

  5. On the Summary tab, in the Backup Set Name drop-down list, select the backup set that you want to delete.

  6. Under Things You Can Do, click Delete backup set.

  7. In the Delete Backup Set window, select Delete backup set.

  8. Click Yes.
