Error: "Norton AntiVirus Error: Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not continue... (Code 10)" on startup with Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac or Norton Internet Security 4 for Mac installed

RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all the files and folders that Norton installers create. Also, all the files that reside in those folders, including that you have created.

To run RemoveSymantecMacFiles, you must know your Mac OS X administrator password.

RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all Symantec Mac OS X files from the Mac OS X boot volume. These files include invisible files, such as Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh QuickScan and Norton FileSaver files.

RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all beta versions of Symantec products.

RemoveSymantecMacFiles is provided for your convenience only and is not a supported utility.


Download and run RemoveSymantecMacFiles

  1. Download the RemoveSymantecMacFiles file.

  2. Double-click the file that you downloaded.

    The file is expanded.

  3. Open the RemoveSymantecMacFiles folder.

  4. Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command file.

  5. Type your Mac OS X administrator password, and then press Return.

    When you type your password, no characters appear.

  6. To remove all Symantec files and folders, type 1, and then press Return. RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all of the Symantec files.

  7. On the Terminal menu, click Quit Terminal.


Install your Norton product for Mac

  1. Do one of the following:

    • If you install from a CD, insert the Norton product CD into the optical disk drive.

      If the CD window doesn't open automatically, from the desktop, double-click the CD icon to open it.

    • If you downloaded your copy of Norton product, double-click the file that you downloaded.

  2. Double-click Norton product Installer.

    Where Norton product is the name of your Norton product.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.


Install the latest version of LiveUpdate

    Do not use this LiveUpdate 5.1.2 installer if you have received your Norton Internet Security 4 for Mac product from Comcast. LiveUpdate 5.1.2 that comes with Norton Internet Security 4 from Comcast does not prompt you to renew your subscription. As needed, a new version of Comcast LiveUpdate will be made available exclusively for Norton Internet Security 4 from Comcast.

  1. Download the LiveUpdate disk image for your Norton product.

  2. Double-click the disk image file that you downloaded.

  3. Double-click the installer file to begin the installation.

  4. Click Continue.

  5. Go through the License Agreement, and then click Continue.

  6. Click Agree.

  7. Select the volume where you want to install the LiveUpdate.

  8. Click Continue.

  9. Click Install.

  10. Type your Administrator account name and password, and then click OK to authenticate the installer.

    The file copy process starts.

  11. When the installation wizard completes, click Close.


Run LiveUpdate

  1. Before you begin, you must be in the Finder. Click the desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock to be in the Finder.

  2. On the menu bar, click Go > Applications.

  3. Open the Symantec Solutions folder.

  4. Double-click LiveUpdate.

    You may also start LiveUpdate by clicking the Norton QuickMenu icon on the menu bar and then clicking LiveUpdate > Open LiveUpdate.

  5. Click Update Everything Now.

  6. In the Authenticate window, type your Administrator password, and then click OK.

  7. After LiveUpdate finishes the update, the LiveUpdate summary window appears. You may now quit LiveUpdate.

  8. Run LiveUpdate again to ensure that you have all available updates.
