Norton from Symantec

Message: "Restoration Incomplete" or "System Restore did not complete successfully..." when I run Windows System Restore with a Norton product installed

This problem can happen due to a security feature in your Norton product that prevents outside programs from making changes to the Norton product. This security feature can prevent Windows System Restore from changing Norton files, which results in the "Restoration Incomplete" message.

To fix this problem, temporarily turn off the Norton Product Tamper Protection before you run Windows System Restore.

STEP 1

Temporarily turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Depending on your Norton product, do one of the following:

    • For Norton AntiVirus or Norton Internet Security: On the General tab, under Product Security, next to Norton Product Tamper Protection, click the status indicator to turn it off.

    • For Norton 360: On the Settings tab, under Quick Controls, uncheck Norton Tamper Protection.

  4. On the Security Request window, under Select the duration drop-down, select Permanently and click OK.

  5. In the Settings window, click Apply or Close.

  6. Click OK.

STEP 2

Run Windows System Restore

  1. Run Windows System Restore again.

  2. Follow the online instructions for your operating system to complete Windows System Restore.

STEP 3

Turn on Norton Product Tamper Protection

  1. Start your Norton product.
