Exclude files and folders from Norton scans

Applicable for: Windows

You can configure your Norton product to exclude certain programs from the Auto-Protect and Behavioral Protection scans. When you add a file or folder to the Exclusions list, your Norton product ignores the file or folder when it scans for security risks.

Excluding a file from the Norton scans reduces the protection level of your computer and should be used only if you have a specific need. You should only exclude items if you are confident they are not infected.

Add exclusions for your Norton scan

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, in the Scans tile, click Open.

  4. In the Scans window, click the Exclusions tab.

  5. Click Add/Add Exclusion.

  6. In the Add Exclusion window, click the browse icon.

  7. Navigate and select the file or folder that you want to exclude from Norton scans, and then click OK.

  8. Click Add.

The item is added to the Exclusions list.

To exclude a file from Download Intelligence, you must download the file to an excluded folder. You can add a folder to the Exclusions list and then download the file to that folder.

Remove an item from scan exclusions

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, in the Scans tile, click Open.

  4. In the Scans window, click the Exclusions tab.

  5. Next to the item that you want to remove, click the delete 'X' icon.
