IS YOUR COMPUTER SLOW? RUN LIKE NEW

If they are not maintained, computers lose performance over time. Norton Utilities Ultimate can help significantly improve the performance of your Windows computers.

Applicable for: Mac

Message: “The installation failed. The installer encountered an error..” appears when trying to install Norton on Mac

Introduction and prerequisites

You may see this issue while installing the following Norton apps,

  • Norton 360
  • Norton Antivirus
  • Norton AntiTrack
  • Norton Utilities Ultimate
  • Norton VPN

This guide provides instructions to help you resolve this issue. Ensure you have an active Norton subscription and access to your Norton account.

To resolve this Error, delete the old setup file(s) and re-download a fresh setup file from Norton Account and try installing again.

Step by Step instructions:

Step 1: Verify and unmount the Norton installer

  1. Open Finder.
  2. To verify if the Norton installer is still mounted,
    • Open Finder
    • In the sidebar, look under Locations for any mounted Norton installer volume.
  3. Click the Eject icon next to the Norton volume.

Alternatively, select the volume and right-click it and select Eject.

  1. Wait until the Norton volume disappears from the Finder sidebar.

Step 2: Delete the Old Norton Setup file(s) from the Downloads folder:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Select Downloads from the sidebar.
  3. Locate the Norton setup file, such as a file beginning with Install_Norton and ending in .dmg.
  4. Select the file and right-click it and select Move to Trash.
  5. Open Trash, verify that the file is not needed, and click Empty Trash.

Important: Check the Downloads folder before deleting to ensure that no important files are included. Norton also recommends reviewing Downloads before using any cleanup option.

If the file cannot be deleted, close the Norton Installer window if it is open and check if the installer is still mounted and unmount it following the steps below. This procedure deletes only the setup file; it does not uninstall Norton from the Mac.
