Today, many users are vulnerable to threats that leverage AI. These include sophisticated deepfakes, AI-powered scams, and adversarial attacks designed to evade AI-driven security. AI-generated voice and audio scams in a video aim to create scams with fake but realistic audio to trick users into giving up money or personal data.
A deepfake is a highly realistic but fabricated piece of media created with AI techniques that manipulate video or audio to replace or alter faces and voices. While deepfakes can be used for entertainment, they are increasingly exploited for scams. These scams often involve AI-generated voice impersonations or fake video streams of public figures promoting fraudulent offers, tricking victims into sharing sensitive information or sending money.
The Deepfake Protection* feature in the Norton device security app combines the AI technology of Norton with the power of Windows PCs (Traditional and AI PC) to automatically detect deepfakes and identify scams in videos that include giveaway scams, cryptocurrency fraud, and investment schemes. It runs on your device to analyze and detect synthetic voices while you watch a video or listen to audio, and notifies you of the same.
Important: The Deepfake Protection feature is automatically installed and enabled on AI and high-performance non-AI PCs. If you are using a non-AI PC with less than 6 physical CPU cores and less than 8GB of RAM, then you must manually install Deepfake Protection. Refer to the Install Deepfake Protection manually on non-AI PCs section below to manually install the Deepfake Protection feature.
Currently, Deepfake Protection only detects scams in English-language audio files.
Automatic Deepfake Protection works only on AI and high-performance non-AI PC, and it is not supported on non-AI PC with less than 6 physical CPU cores and less than 8GB of RAM.
Automatic Deepfake Protection works only on YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, Vimeo, Instagram, Dailymotion, and Twitch. You must turn on the audio settings on your browser media player for your video streaming app (YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, Vimeo, Instagram, Dailymotion, and Twitch) to allow your Norton device security app to automatically detect synthetic voices in videos or other audio files.
To detect synthetic voices on other video or audio apps, you must complete a manual check using the Start manual audio scan option in your Norton device security app settings.
To configure and use the Deepfake Protection feature, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements.
To check your device's full specification, press the Windows key + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter. The System Summary tab displays the full specification.
