Applicable for: Mac
With increasing Internet use, your browser is prone to attack by malicious websites. These websites detect and exploit the vulnerability of your browser to download malware programs to your Mac without your consent or knowledge. These malware programs are also called drive-by downloads. The Norton product protects your browser against drive-by downloads from malicious websites.
When you turn on Safe Web, your Norton product blocks malware before it can attack. It helps protect your sensitive information and prevents attackers from accessing your Mac. By default, Safe Web is turned on. Keep Safe Web turned on to ensure protection against malicious websites.
Safe Web does the following automatically:
Blocks malicious websites and phishing attempts while you browse the web.
Prevents downloading potentially malicious content that could infect your Mac.
With HTTPS scanning, we decrypt and scan encrypted traffic to detect potential malware contained on sites using HTTPS connections.

Default settings are recommended for most users. If you want to turn off a feature temporarily, turn it on as soon as possible.
To change Safe Web settings:
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Security.
In the Security dashboard, click Safe Web.
In the Settings tab, enable or disable the slider next to each setting to specify your preferred options:
Website Scanning: Blocks malicious websites and phishing attempts while you browse the web.
HTTPS scanning: Scans for malicious data even when connecting to secure websites on SSL.
Download Intelligence: Detects and analyzes suspicious files when you download them from the Internet.
When the above features are turned off, your Mac is not adequately protected from Internet threats and security risks. It is always recommended to keep the above features turned on.
You can configure your Norton product to exclude specific websites from Norton Safe Web scans. When you add a website to the exclusions list, your Norton product ignores the website when it scans for security risks.
Excluding a website from the Norton Safe Web scans reduces the protection level of your Mac and should be used only if you have a specific need. You should only exclude a website if you are confident it is safe.
Exclude or turn off notifications for a website
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Security.
In the Security dashboard, click Safe Web.
Click the Exclusions tab and click Add exclusion.
In the Website URL text box, enter the domain name of the URL you want to exclude from the Safe Web scans.
You can choose your preferred option for the exception and click Add.
Hide alerts: Turn off notifications for the website.
Don’t scan: Exclude the website from the Safe Web scans.
If prompted, enter your Mac administrator password and click OK.
If you want to remove an exclusion, in the Exclusions window, hover your cursor over the relevant exclusion file and then click (the remove icon).
