Custom Scans allow you to create and schedule your own scans to run regularly and automatically.
To create a custom scan:
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Security.
In the Security dashboard, in the Scans tile, click Open.
Click the Custom scans tab and click Create Scan.
Enter a Scan name, then use the drop-down menus to select the type of scan and frequency. You can choose from the following options:
Scan type: Quick Scan, Full Scan, or Targeted Scan.
Frequency: Run manually, Once, daily, weekly, or monthly.
Click the up or down arrows under “Day of the month” and “Start time” options to change the day and the start time for your custom scan.
If you selected Targeted Scan, click Add, select the folder you want to scan, and click Open.
Review the general settings list and enable or disable the slider next to each setting to specify your preferred options, and then click Create Scan.
Notify me about potentially unwanted programs: Scans for and notify you about programs that are stealthily downloaded with other programs and typically perform unwanted activity.
Scan for Tools: Tools are apps that can access, control, or potentially harm computers.
Scan whole files: Scan entire files rather than only the parts typically affected by malicious code. Scanning larger files takes longer.
Scan all Time Machine backups: Scans all backups saved in Time Machine. Time Machine is the built-in backup feature on your Mac.
When the scan runs, the external storage device used for your Time Machine backups must be connected to your Mac.
Scan archives (RAR, ZIP, etc.): Analyze all archive files, such as .zip, .rar, and other executable or installer archives. This significantly increases the scan duration.
Scan external drives: Scan all external drives connected to your Mac.
Scan mounted network volumes: Scan all mounted network drives that are mapped to your Mac.
To edit or delete a custom scan, in the Custom scans window, hover your cursor over the scan details and click the More options icon (three dots), then select Edit scan or Remove scan.
