Delay or disable startup programs with Startup Manager

Startup Manager helps you to manage and control your startup programs to enhance the performance of your computer at startup.

Many programs and processes are configured to launch when you start your computer. These include apps you never used, rarely used, or never knew you had. The more programs that launch when you start your computer, the longer it takes. Norton Startup Manager lets you disable or delay startup programs to get your computer up and running faster.

You can view the following details in the Startup Manager window:

Application

Lists the names of the programs that are included in the startup programs.

This information helps you decide whether you want to run this program during startup or launch later. In addition, you can click the details (...) icon on the far-right side to view the detailed information about the program in the File Insight window.

The File Insight window appears only for the .exe or .msi files.

Community usage

Lets you view the community usage of the program to determine its popularity.

We use a stringent statistical method to evaluate and classify the program's community usage.

Startup impact

Indicates the effect of the program on the overall system resource utilization of your computer.

When to launch

Indicates the current startup setting.

  • Startup: Programs that launch during computer startup.

  • Disabled: Programs that are disabled from launching when your computer starts.

  • Delay: Programs that load only after the computer startup completes.

Disable or delay startup items

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Performance.

  3. In the Performance dashboard, in the Startup Manager tile, click Open.

  4. In the Startup Manager window, in the When to launch column, select one of the following for each listed program:

    Your options are:

    • Startup: Launches the program during device startup.

    • Disabled: Prevents the program from launching when your device starts. Select this option for programs that you don't use.

    • Delay: Allows the program to load only after the device startup completes. You can use this option to delay the start of a program when you turn on your computer. The program runs at a later time.

You can use the Launch Delayed Apps option to manually run all the startup programs that you chose to delay.
