Review recent security or other events with Security History

The Security History window lets you view all the activities that your Norton product performed to help keep you and your device protected. You can view detailed information of security events and act on the events that need your action.

Accessing Security History

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, click Security History.

    The Security History window appears with the list of recent activities that your Norton product performed.

  4. Select a category from the Recent History drop-down list to list only the security events that are related to the feature you choose.

  5. For any event that you want to review, click to open the Security History - Advanced Details window.

    The Security History - Advanced Details window gives more information about a security event so that you can decide on the action to be taken. You can act on the events based on the available options in the Available Actions section.

Security History categories

The security alerts, scan results, firewall activities, and other security items related to various product features appear under their respective categories in the Security History window.

Security History broadly organizes all categories into the following groups:

  • All Activity

  • Security

  • Performance

  • Privacy

  • Informational

By default, the following information categories are available in the Security History window:

  • Recent History

  • Full History

  • Scan Results

  • Resolved Security Risks

  • Unresolved Security Risks

  • Quarantine

  • Ransomware Protection

  • Behavioral Protection

  • Smart Firewall - Network and Connections

  • Smart Firewall - Activities

  • Wi-Fi Security

  • Intrusion Prevention

  • Software Updater

  • File Cleanup

  • Optimize Disk

  • Startup Manager

  • Webcam Guard

  • Silent Mode

  • LiveUpdate

You can view the security items based on the category of events that you select.

Based on the security status of an item in an information category, you can take an appropriate action to resolve a risk or a threat. The actions that you can perform include the following:

  • Restore and exclude a quarantined item.

  • Remove all items for a selected category.

  • Submit an item to Norton for further analysis.

  • Trust or restrict devices on a selected network.

  • Remove the trusted or restricted status of devices on the selected network.

  • Allow a selected program to access the Internet.

  • Configure your Norton product to notify you when it blocks a selected attack signature.

Advanced Details

The Security History - Advanced Details window lets you view more information about the events when you click in the Security History window. You can also perform any action that is available for the selected event from this window.

Displays the following information about the item:

  • Time

    This category displays the date and time of the activity.

  • Severity

    This category displays the risk level of the selected item. The various levels of security risks are High, Medium, and Info.

  • Event

    This category displays the activity that was performed by your Norton product.

  • Status

    This category displays the status of the action taken on the item.

  • Available Actions

    This category displays the actions that you might need to perform. The available actions vary based on the category that you select.

    You can use the File Insight option to view the details of the file in the File Insight window. The File Insight option is not available for all category of events.

The Details tab displays the detailed information of the item. You can view the details such as category, risk level, risk category, submission date of the risk, risk status, risk description, and recommended actions for the items.

The Risk Management tab displays the links that provide the information that is related to the selected item. For some Security History items, this view lets you access the relevant settings pane of your Norton product.
