Customize settings for Norton Driver Updater

The Settings window in Norton Driver Updater lets you configure the various options available within Norton Driver Updater.

The default product settings provide the right optimization for your computer. You need not change the settings unless there is a specific need.

Customize Norton Driver Updater settings

1. Open Norton Driver Updater.

2. In the Norton Driver Updater window, at the top-right corner, click the Settings icon.

3. In the Settings window, click the relevant tab to customize the app settings as required.

   General

   • Language: Change the language of the Norton Driver Updater interface.

     Not all app interface content changes to the language you choose. Some text may continue to remain in English.

   • Notifications preferences: Be notified of updates for outdated drivers.

     Important: If you turn off this option, the only way you get to know about the outdated drivers is by running a Norton Driver Updater scan. We recommend that you keep this option turned on.

   • Update Driver Updater: Lets you configure the program updates setting.

     By default, Norton Driver Updater downloads and installs the latest program updates regularly from Norton servers to help update all your hardware drivers. However, you can choose how you want to get the program updates.

     Your options are:

     • Update Driver Updater automatically in the background (Recommended)

     • Check for updates when I open Driver Updater and update when closed

     • I'll check and update Driver Updater manually

     If you choose this option, you must use the Update now option to manually install the latest updates.

   Personal privacy

   • Improvements: Help improve our app and business processes by allowing us to analyze app-usage data in 3rd-party tools. Turn on this option to contribute to anonymized analytical data that is used to examine how users interact with Norton Driver Updater.

   • Share app-usage data with Norton so we may offer you upgrades or our products or services: Check this option to receive offers on products and services from Norton.

   • Share app-usage data with Norton so we may offer you 3rd party products: Turn on this option to receive offers on third-party products from Norton.

   Troubleshooting

   • Send logs: Click Send logs to Norton to send app logs for troubleshooting product issues that include product error reports, crash logs, and Windows system restore points.

   • Save error logs: Save information about unexpected problems that might occur when running the application.

   • Create System Restore points: Save a snapshot of your PC before each driver update. Saving snapshots allows you to revert back if a driver update causes a problem on your PC.

   • Send crash reports: Automatically send data to the Avast Driver Updater team about unexpected crashes.

   Driver updates

   Lets you configure the program updates setting.

   • Backup folder: Each time Norton Driver Updater updates an outdated driver, it automatically saves a backup of the current version to help you restore the driver to its previous version, just in case the new version has some problems. Backup data grows over a period and occupies more disk space. It is important to get rid of older backups regularly to regain disk space and improve your computer's performance.

     You can find the older backups in the following location:

     C:\ProgramData\Norton\Driver Updater\BackupStorage

   • Auto delete backups: Next to Delete older backups from your PC regularly, choose how long you want to keep the older backup data.

     Your options are:

     • Delete all but the latest

     • Delete after a month

     • Delete after 3 months

     • Delete after 6 months

     Next to Maximum backup folder size, set the maximum size limit for your backup folder. When the backup folder reaches the threshold limit, newer backups override the older ones.

     The minimum size required for the backup folder is 2 GB.

   • Alternative drivers: Norton Driver Updater checks for alternative drivers for your hardware if the original device manufacturer has not released new driver updates for a while. You can choose how long Norton Driver Updater can wait before updating your hardware with alternate drivers.

   Developer settings

   Access settings related to the functioning of Norton Driver Updater when not in use.

   Your options are:

   • Keep all features working when I close Norton Driver Updater

   • Allow Driver Updater graphics outside the app

   My subscription

   Allows you to view your subscription status and subscription expiration date. If the remaining days left in your subscription is less than 30 days, you are provided with a Renew option to help renew your subscription.
