Configure Norton Driver Updater to check for alternative drivers

The Alternative drivers feature in Norton Driver Updater checks for alternative drivers for your hardware if the device manufacturer has not released new driver updates.

Every hardware component in your computer needs drivers to function properly. Device manufacturers make these drivers available for download. In addition to these official drivers, there are alternative drivers that help the devices work as intended.

If a specific hardware component is not working properly and the device manufacturer has not released a new driver version, Norton Driver Updater helps you get compatible alternate driver packages for the specific hardware.

With the Alternative drivers setting turned on, Norton Driver Updater updates the outdated drivers with alternate driver packages when the original device manufacturers have not released a new driver version for more than 3 months since the release of the last version.

By default, Norton Driver Updater waits for 6 months before offering to update your hardware with an alternative driver. However, you can change this waiting time to suit your needs.

If you prefer having only the device manufacturer's driver updates, you can keep the Alternative drivers setting turned off.

Configure Norton Driver Updater to check for alternative drivers

1. Open Norton Driver Updater.

2. In the Norton Driver Updater window, at the top-right corner, click the Settings icon.

3. Under Driver Updater, click Alternative drivers.

4. In the Alternative drivers settings window, move the slider so that it turns blue (On) to turn on Alternative drivers.

5. From the drop-down list, select the waiting period:

   • 1 month

   • 2 months

   • 3 months

   • 6 months (default option)

   • 1 Year
