Message: "Make sure you have configured your backup settings before running backup" appears when I run backup in my Norton product

After you upgrade to the latest version of Norton 360 or Norton Security (version 22.8.x.x), the option to use the optical drive (CD/DVD) to backup your data from the Norton product is no longer available. However, you can still restore the previously backed up files from a CD or DVD.

To know the name and version of your Norton product, read Finding the name and version of your Norton product.

This problem occurs when you have set the backup destination as your CD or DVD drive and run backup. To resolve this issue, change your backup destination.

Change the backup destination

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Under Detailed Settings, click Backup Settings.

  4. In the Backup Settings window, next to Manage Backup, click Configure.

  5. In the Manage Backup Sets window, in the Where tab, under Destination select an alternate location.

  6. Click Save Settings, and then click Close.
