I cannot find the Norton QuickMenu icon after I update my Norton product for Mac

This problem can happen for different reasons. You need to uninstall your Norton product for Mac using RemoveSymantecMacFiles removal utility, and then reinstall Norton to fix this problem.

Before you begin uninstalling your Norton product for Mac, read:

  • RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all Symantec Mac OS X files from the Mac OS X boot volume. These files include invisible files, such as Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh QuickScan and Norton FileSaver files.

  • RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all beta versions of Symantec products.

  • RemoveSymantecMacFiles is provided for your convenience only and is not a supported utility.

RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all the folders created by Norton installers and any files within those folders. You shall lose all files that reside in those folders, including any you have created.


Download and run RemoveSymantecMacFiles as an administrator

  1. Download the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file.

  2. Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file that you downloaded.

    The file is expanded.

  3. Open the RemoveSymantecMacFiles folder.

  4. Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command file.

    To run this tool, you must be logged in to your Mac with an Administrator account with a non-blank password.

  5. On the application warning dialog box, click Open.

    RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command file is launched in the Terminal utility.

  6. Type your Mac OS X administrator password, and then press return.

    When you type your password, no characters appear.

  7. Do one of the following:

    • To remove all Symantec files and folders, type 1.

    • To quit RemoveSymantecMacFiles without removing any files, type 2.

  8. Press return.

  9. Before restarting your computer, save your work and close the open applications, type y and then press return.


Download your Norton product

  1. Sign In to Norton.

  2. If you are not signed in to Norton already, you will be prompted to sign in. Type in your email address and password for Norton, and click Sign In.

    If you do not have a Norton account, click Create account and complete the sign-up process.

  3. In the Norton Setup window, click Download Norton.

  4. Click Agree & Download.

  5. Click OK to save and open the Setup.zip file.

  6. When the download finishes, double-click the Norton product Installer.

  7. Click Agree & Install to start the installation.

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  9. When LiveUpdate finishes installing updates, click Continue.

  10. In the Installation Successful window, click Restart.

    You must restart your computer to complete the installation process.
