Error Management

The Error Management feature creates a report of all the errors that your Norton product encounters. It automatically submits the crash report to Symantec for further analysis for the purpose of improvement. By default, Error Management is turned on.

If you do not want to send the report to Symantec, you can turn off the Error Management option.

In some cases, your Norton product displays the Norton Error Management alert window, if Symantec requires additional information to resolve the errors that your Norton product encounters. The Norton Error Reporting alert is disabled, if you turn off the Error Management option.

Turn off or turn on Error Management

  1. In the Norton product main window, click Advanced.

  2. On the left pane, click Product Settings.

  3. In the Error Management row, move the switch to off or on.

The Error Management feature also creates a detailed report of all errors your Norton product encounters and submits the crash report to Symantec for further analysis for the purpose of improvement. The detailed data report gathers the following information about your computer when your Norton product encountered the problem:

  • Operating system version

  • Hardware information

  • Data from the files or folders that are opened when your Norton product encountered the problem

Symantec collects this information to evaluate and improve the product effectively. However, the files that were opened when your Norton product encountered the problem can contain some personally-identifiable information. Symantec does not correlate these files with any personally-identifiable information and does not store these data. Symantec collects these files only for the purpose of improving the ability of the Norton product. Symantec maintains a high level of protection for the collected information.

If you want your Norton product to send a detailed error report, you can enable the option. By sending the detailed error report, you contribute to the effectiveness of your Norton product. By default, this option is disabled.

Enable or disable detailed data collection

  1. In the Norton product main window, click Advanced.

  2. On the left pane, click Product Settings.

  3. In the Error Management row, click the settings icon.

  4. In the Norton Error Management window, do one of the following:

    • To enable detailed data collection, check Enable detailed data collection checkbox.

    • To disable detailed data collection, uncheck Enable detailed data collection checkbox.
