My Norton product installation takes a long time or stops responding

You may encounter this issue if there is any third-party security software or their related drivers that is installed on your device. To resolve this problem, uninstall the third-party security software before you install the Norton product.

We have identified that some customers from Korea who have installed AhnLab Safe Transaction (or AST) encounter this issue. To proceed with the installation of your Norton product; you need to uninstall AST. Install your Norton product and then you can reinstall AST.


Uninstall any non-Symantec security product

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.


  3. In the list of currently installed programs, select the non-Symantec security product, and then click Uninstall or Remove.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.

    If the problem persists, install the Norton product in safe mode.


Install product from safe mode

  1. Exit all programs.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.


    If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes or Continue.

  4. In the System Configuration window, on the Boot tab, select Safe boot and Network.

    On Windows XP: In the System Configuration Utility window, on the BOOT.INI tab, select /SAFEBOOT and Network.

  5. Click OK.

  6. When you are asked to restart the computer, click Restart.

    The computer restarts in safe mode with networking.

  7. Install the Norton product.
