Error: "We are sorry. It seems like something went wrong with the installation of the product..." when I install my Norton product for Mac

This problem can occur during the installation if the activation is interrupted. When you see this error message, in the message window, click Try Again Later. Restart your Mac, and then activate your Norton product.

If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall your Norton product.

STEP 1

Uninstall your Norton product

  1. In the Applications folder, double-click your Norton product.

  2. On the menu bar, next to the Apple icon, click Norton product, and then select Uninstall Norton product.

    You need to be in the Norton product application window to get the menu options.

  3. In the Uninstall Norton product confirmation window, click Uninstall.

  4. Type your Administrator account name and password, and then click Install Helper.

  5. In the uninstaller window, click Restart Now.

STEP 2

Download and install your Norton product

  1. Sign In to Norton.

  2. If you are not signed in to Norton already, you are prompted to sign in. Type in your email address and password for Norton, and click Sign In.

    If you do not have a Norton account, click Create account and complete the sign-up process.

  3. In the Norton Setup window, click Download Norton.

  4. Click Agree & Download.

  5. Click OK to save and open the Setup.zip file.

  6. When the download finishes, double-click the Norton product Installer.

  7. Click Agree & Install to start the installation.

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  9. When LiveUpdate finishes installing updates, click Continue.

  10. In the Installation Successful window, click Restart.

    You must restart your computer to complete the installation process.

What if this didn't work?

Download and run the RemoveSymantecMacFiles tool

    RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all the folders created by Norton installers and any files within those folders. You shall lose all the files that reside in those folders, including any you have created.

  1. Download the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file.

  2. Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file that you downloaded.

    The file is expanded.

  3. Open the RemoveSymantecMacFiles folder.

  4. Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command file.

  5. Type your Mac OS X administrator password, and then press return.

    When you type your password, no characters appear.

  6. Do one of the following:

    • To remove all Symantec files and folders, type 1

    • To quit RemoveSymantecMacFiles without removing any files, type 2

  7. Press return.

    RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all of the Symantec files.

  8. On the Terminal menu, click Quit Terminal.
