I am unable to use Norton Toolbar in Google Chrome after I upgrade my Norton product

To fix this problem, check the Norton Security Toolbar extension version and update them to the latest version.

These steps are for the current version of the Norton products. If you have an older version or if you do not know your product version, go to Norton Update Center.

STEP 1

Run LiveUpdate

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. In the main window, click Security, and then click LiveUpdate.

    For Norton Identity Safe: Click the Settings icon at the bottom of the main window. In the Settings window, on the About tab, click Check for new updates.

  3. When Norton LiveUpdate is finished, click OK.

  4. Run LiveUpdate until you see the message, "Your Norton product has the latest protection updates."

  5. Exit all the programs, and restart the computer.

STEP 2

Install the Norton Security Toolbar extension

  1. Start the Google Chrome browser.

  2. Access the Norton Identity Safe website.

  3. In the Secure your browser with Norton Extensions page, click Add All Norton Extensions.

    To get full web protection and password management, add all the extensions.

  4. Restart the Google Chrome browser, and accept any prompts from Google Chrome to enable Norton extensions.

  5. Run LiveUpdate as described in Step 1, until you have all the latest updates.

    If the Norton Security Toolbar is still not available in the browser, then this may be due to certain apps that are still running in the background. To resolve this issue, you need to exit and restart the Google Chrome browser. Start the Google Chrome browser, and on the top right corner, click the Customize and control Google Chrome button, and click Exit. This action performs a full Chrome shutdown. Clicking the X button on the Chrome browser does not guarantee that Chrome shuts down completely. After the restart, if the Norton Identity Safe vault is not displayed in the Norton Toolbar, then exit and restart the Google Chrome browser again.

If you are still unable to use the Norton Toolbar, your browser profile may be corrupted and you may need to create a new browser user profile. For more information, read Reset Chrome settings to default.
