Error: "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect cannot run with the 64-Bit Kernel. Please restart with the 32-Bit Kernel, then re-enable Auto-Protect" appears on Mac OS X v10.6.x with 64-bit kernel mode

A new update is released for Norton AntiVirus that adds the capability to run the program in 64-bit kernel mode. To get this update, run LiveUpdate and download all the available updates for your Norton product.

Run LiveUpdate

  1. Before you begin, you must be in the Finder. Click the desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock to be in the Finder.

  2. On the menu bar, click Go > Applications.

  3. Open the Symantec Solutions folder.

  4. Double-click LiveUpdate.

    You may also start LiveUpdate by clicking the Norton QuickMenu icon on the menu bar and then clicking LiveUpdate > Open LiveUpdate.

  5. Click Update Everything Now.

  6. After LiveUpdate finishes the update, the LiveUpdate summary window appears. You may now quit LiveUpdate.

  7. Run LiveUpdate again to ensure that you have all available updates.
