Error: "Email Error: 550..." appears when I send an email in Microsoft Outlook or Windows Mail with a Norton product installed

This message indicates that a mail server rejected the email you have sent from the computer.

If you see the message even though you do not send any email, your computer may be infected. Call or chat with our Virus & Spyware Removal service agents for more information.

If you see this message only when you send an email, it indicates one of the following:

  • That there is a problem with your computer's email settings.

  • That the connection between your computer and your Internet service provider was broken before the email was completely sent. It does not mean that there is a problem with your Norton program.

Contact your Internet service provider to correct the settings.

Your Norton product includes Email Protection. Email Protection is an extra layer of protection that scans the incoming and the outgoing email. To do this job, Email Protection is placed between your email program and the ISP. If the ISP rejects an outgoing email immediately, your Norton product carries the message. But the message is really from the ISP.

Thank you!

Thank you for using Norton Support.
