Message: "You are using an older version of Norton Family..." when configuring Time settings for a child profile in Norton Family

This problem can occur if you have an older version of Norton Family installed on one of the computers that you monitor using Norton Family. To fix this problem, uninstall the older version of Norton Family and install the latest version.


Uninstall Norton Family

  1. Sign in to the child's computer as an Administrator.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. In the Run dialog box, type the following, and then press Enter.


  4. In the list of installed programs, click Norton Family, and then click Uninstall.

  5. In the Norton Family window, type your parent email address and password, and click OK.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Click Restart to complete the uninstall process.


Reinstall Norton Family

  1. Sign in to Norton using your email address and password.

  2. On the Child's profile, click Add Device.

    If you have Norton Security subscription, click the Family tab to access the Norton Family settings.

  3. Click Add New Device.

  4. If you are on the same computer that your child uses, click Next.

    If you want to install Norton Family on another device, click No and then click Next. Follow the on-screen instructions to install on another device.

  5. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded.

  6. If you see the Open File - Security Warning message, click Run to continue.

    Norton Download Manager starts the download for Norton Family. When the download finishes, installation starts automatically.

  7. If you see the User Account Control prompt, click Yes to continue.

  8. Click Agree & Install.

  9. If you see a prompt to restart, click Restart and continue the installation after you restart the computer.

  10. When the installation is complete, click Finish.


Configure Norton Family to monitor user accounts

  1. Click the Norton Family icon in the notifications area and click Edit Accounts.

  2. Type the parent email address and password and click Sign In.

  3. Next to the child profile that you want to associate the computer with, click Edit.

  4. Select signs in as, and then select the local user accounts that your child uses.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Click OK.
