Error: (8920,223) "Norton LiveUpdate was unable to install an update" when I run LiveUpdate in Norton Security Suite or Norton Business Suite

STEP 1

Check your Virus Definitions date

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. On the Norton product window, click Security. Under Run LiveUpdate, check for the time next to Definitions updated.

  3. Depending on your situation, do one of the following:

    • If the time is less than one day, then wait for 24 hours and then run LiveUpdate again.

    • If the time is more than one day, go to Step 2 to update your Virus Definitions.

STEP 2

Update your Virus Definitions

  1. Go to the Intelligent Updater downloads page.

  2. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:

    • For Windows 8/7/Vista/XP 32-bit: Click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i32.exe. e.g. 20070828-017-v5i32.exe

    • For Windows 8/7/Vista 64-bit: Go to the 64-bit Platforms section, and click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i64.exe. e.g. 20090922-017-v5i64.exe

In the Intelligent Updater downloads page, if you cannot download the virus definitions file using the exe link, click the FTP link next to it.

  3. Save the file to the Windows desktop.

  4. On the desktop, double-click the file that you saved.
