Error: "Error initializing modem" on Windows startup or when I start the host in pcAnywhere 12.x

Create a registry entry to delay the start of host

  1. Do one of the following:

    In Windows Vista, click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > Run.

    In Windows XP or 2003 or 2000, click Start > Run.

  2. In the Run dialog box, type the following and then click OK:

    regedit

  3. In the registry editor window, locate and select the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\pcANYWHERE\CurrentVersion\Host

  4. Click Edit > New, and then click DWORD.

  5. In the right pane, name the value as HostStartupDelay, and then press Enter.

  6. Double-click the newly created HostStartupDelay subkey.

  7. Enter the value for delay as number of seconds.

    For example, 5 = 5-seconds delay.

  8. Click OK, and then close the registry editor.

  9. Exit all the programs, and then restart the computer.
