Error: "The MSI installer is currently disabled via Group Policy. Please change the policy before attempting this action again" when I install my Norton product

STEP 1

Update the registry key for Windows Installer

    This section has steps to modify Windows registry. Back up the registry before you make any changes, because incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the specified registry key. For instructions, read:

    Backing up the Windows registry

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    regedit

    If you receive the User Account Control prompt, click Continue.

  3. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

  4. In the right pane, double-click the DisableMSI key.

  5. In the Value Data field, if the value shows 1, change it to 0.

  6. Click OK.

  7. On the File menu, click Exit.

  8. Restart the computer.

STEP 2

Reinstall your Norton product

  1. Depending on your situation, do one of the following:

    • If you have the product on a CD, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. When the install menu appears, click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product.

    • If you have downloaded the product, find the product installation file, and then double-click the installation file.

      Unless you saved it elsewhere, it is on the Windows desktop.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
