Error: "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine. Please run LiveUpdate to get the latest version" when I start Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac

RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all folders created by Norton installers and any files within those folders. You will lose all files that reside in those folders, including any you have created.

STEP 1

Download and run RemoveSymantecMacFiles

  1. Download the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file.

  2. Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file that you downloaded.

    The file is expanded.

  3. Open the RemoveSymantecMacFiles folder.

  4. Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command file.

  5. Type your administrator password, and then press return.

    When you type your password, no characters appear.

  6. To remove all Symantec files and folders, type 1.

  7. Press return.

    RemoveSymantecMacFiles removes all of the Symantec files

  8. On the Terminal menu, click Quit Terminal.

STEP 2

Reinstall Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh

  1. Do one of the following:

    • If you are installing from a CD, insert the Norton product CD into the optical disk drive.

      If the CD window doesn't open automatically, from the desktop, double-click the CD icon to open it.

    • If you downloaded your copy of Norton product, double-click the file that you downloaded.

  2. Double-click the Norton AntiVirus Installer.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
