Error: "Norton Utilities 14.0 has stopped working" when I start Norton Utilities 14.0


Run Smart Update

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

    If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.

  2. On the top-right corner of the window, click Smart Update.

  3. Click Next.

    Smart Update connects to the Update Server and checks for available updates.

  4. Check all the updates listed, and then click Next.

  5. Click Finish.

    If the problem persists, go to Step 2.


Enable Data Execution Prevention settings

  1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Depending on your operating system, do one of the following:

    • For Windows 7 or Vista: click System and Maintenance, and then click System. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.

    • For Windows XP: click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

  3. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

  4. On the Data Execution Prevention tab, select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

  5. Click Add, and then locate the following Norton Utilities files one by one:

    These files are located at C:\Program Files\Norton Utilities 14.

    • nu.exe

    • RMReg.exe

    • RMScrn.exe

    • RMTray.exe

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Click OK to confirm.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Exit all the programs, and restart the computer.


Check for the Compatibility mode

  1. On the desktop, right-click Norton Utilities icon, and then click Properties.

  2. On the Compatibility tab, make sure that Run this program in compatibility mode for: is unchecked.

  3. Click Apply > OK.
