Error: "The upgrade of Norton [product name] did not complete. Please uninstall and reinstall your Norton product now" when I install my Norton product

STEP 1

Uninstall the Norton or Symantec product

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    appwiz.cpl

  3. In the list of currently installed programs, select the Norton or Symantec security product, and then click Uninstall or Remove.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.

STEP 2

Reinstall your Norton product

  • Depending on your situation, do one of the following:

    • If you have the product on a CD, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, and then click Install Norton product.

      Where Norton product is the name of your Norton product.

    • If you have the downloaded version, double-click the Norton product installation file that you downloaded. Unless you saved it elsewhere, the installation file is on the Windows desktop. Follow the on-screen instructions.

    • If the product was preinstalled on the computer, reinstall your Norton product from the back-up CD that came with your computer. If you do not have the back-up CD or if you are not sure how to use it, please contact your computer manufacturer for help.

    • If you have downloaded the product from the service provider, find the product installation file and double-click on it. Follow the on-screen instructions. If you no longer have the installation file, download it again from your service provider.
