Error: "This product is not compatible with this computer's current operating system..." appears when I install my Norton product

You may also see the error "Norton product will not install in compatibility mode. Close this window and restart the installer in normal mode." These errors can appear if the Norton product is not compatible with your operating system or if you are running the installer in the compatibility mode.

Check your Norton product compatibility

  • The Norton product that you want to install is compatible only with the following operating systems:

    • Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 (32-bit only)

    • Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (32-bit only)

    • Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Service Pack 3 (32-bit only)

    • Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Business/Ultimate

      The current versions of Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, and Norton Anti-Theft require Service Pack 1 or later for Windows Vista.)

    • Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Professional/Ultimate

    • Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro (32-bit and 64-bit)

    • Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit) Home/Professional

Run Windows updates

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    If you receive the User Account Control prompt, click Yes or Continue.

  3. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Run the installer in normal mode

    Make sure that you are not running the Norton product installer in the compatibility mode.

  1. Right-click the Norton product install file that you have downloaded, and click Properties.

  2. On the Compatibility tab, under Compatibility mode, uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode for.

  3. Install your Norton product.
