Error: "The install file cannot be properly validated..." when installing Norton from service provider

On Windows XP computers, this error can appear if the root certificates are not up-to-date. Since, Microsoft has ended the support for Windows XP, you will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update and cannot install the latest root certificates.

You should consider upgrading your operating system to the latest version, read Windows XP support has ended to know more about your options.

If you have Windows 10, 8, 7, or Vista installed on your computer, perform the steps in this article to troubleshoot the problem.


Delete temporary files

  1. Exit all programs.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. Type the following text, and then press Enter.


    The current user's Temp folder opens in Windows folder.

  4. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

  5. Press Delete

  6. If you are asked to confirm the deletion, click Yes.


Reinstall Norton

  1. Sign in to your service provider's website or locate the email that you were sent when you subscribed to the Norton service.

  2. Click the link to begin the Norton download.

    If prompted, select the license you want to use.

  3. Click Download.

    Follow the on-screen instructions.

    Sign in if you already have a Norton account or service provider's credentials. If you do not have a Norton account, click Create account and complete the sign-up process.

    If the download is interrupted, or you see any error when you download your product, there is a file on the desktop or in the Downloads folder for you to double-click to start the download again.


Run Windows updates

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.


    If you receive the User Account Control prompt, click Yes or Continue.

  3. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
