Reinstall Norton Online Backup

Uninstalling the Norton Online Backup from a computer does not delete the backup set created for that computer. When you reinstall Norton Online Backup on the same computer, a new backup set is created.

After you reinstall Norton Online Backup, we recommend that you delete the previous backup set from your Norton Online Backup account. If you want to restore any files from your previous backup set, make sure that you restore them before delete the old backup set.


Reinstall Norton Online Backup

  1. Sign in to the Norton Online Backup website using your email address and password.

  2. Next to My Devices, click Add Computer.

  3. Read the Terms of Service, and then check I have read and agree with the Terms of Service.

  4. Click Start Download.

    If you see a prompt, save the Norton Online Backup installation file onto your desktop.

  5. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded.

    If you see a Security Warning, click Run.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  7. In the Name Your Computer page, when you add a Display Name, type a new name for your computer. Do not use the name that you used previously.

    A new backup set is created for your computer even if it is the same computer you had previously set up a backup for. Providing a new computer name helps you differentiate the previous backup set from the new backup set.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Now that the computer has been added, you need go to the settings and setup your backup again.


Download files from the previous backup set

    If you do not want to restore any files from your previous backup set, skip to Step 3.

  1. On the Norton Online Backup home page, next to the previous backup set, click File Actions, and then click Download a file.

  2. In the Folders pane, click the folder name to navigate down the folder tree of the files that are backed up.

    The Files pane displays the backed-up files in the current folder.

  3. In the Files pane, click the file name that you want to download.

  4. Follow the browser prompt to save the files on your computer.

  5. If you want to download multiple files from the backup set, repeat lines 3 through 5 for each file.


Remove the previous backup set

    Removing a previous Computer is a permanent action. Please ensure that you have restored any required data before completing this step.

  1. On the Norton Online Backup home page, click Remove Computer.

  2. Next to the previous backup set, Click Remove.

  3. Click OK.
