Blue screen error when installing your Norton product

STEP 1

Start the computer in Safe mode with Networking

  1. Exit all programs.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    msconfig

    If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes or Continue.

  4. In the System Configuration window, on the Boot tab, check Safe boot and select Network.

  5. Click OK.

  6. When you are asked to restart the computer, click Restart.

    The computer restarts in safe mode with networking.

STEP 2

Download Norton from your Norton account

  1. Sign in to your account.

  2. If you are not signed in already, you are prompted to sign in. Type in your email address and password and click Sign In.

    If you do not have an account, click Create an account, and then complete the sign-up process.

  3. In the Get Started window, click Download Norton.

    If you want to install a new product which is not registered to your Norton account, click Enter a New Product Key and then enter the product key or PIN to begin the download.

  4. Click Agree and Download.

  5. Do one of the following depending on your browser:

    • For Windows: Press Ctrl + J key, to open the Downloads window in your browser, and double-click the file that you downloaded.

    • For Mac: Press Command + Option + L, to open the Downloads window in your browser, and double-click the file that you downloaded.

  6. If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions

    Norton is now installed and activated.

STEP 3

Restart the computer in Normal mode

  1. Exit all programs.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    msconfig

    If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes or Continue.

  4. In the System Configuration window, on the Boot tab, uncheck Safe boot.

  5. Click OK.

  6. When you are asked to restart the computer, click Restart.

    The computer restarts in the normal mode which takes several minutes.
