Norton Utilities stops responding when running a registry scan

STEP 1

Check for the Compatibility mode

  1. Exit Norton Utilities.

  2. On the desktop, right-click Norton Utilities icon and then click Properties.

  3. On the Compatibility tab, make sure that Run this program in compatibility mode for: is unchecked.

  4. Click Apply > OK.

    If the problem persists, go to Step 2.

STEP 2

Uninstall Norton Utilities

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. In the Run dialog box, type in the following text, and then press Enter:

    appwiz.cpl

  3. In the list of currently installed programs, click Norton Utilities, and then click Remove or Uninstall.

  4. Click Yes to confirm.

  5. When the uninstall finishes, exit all the programs and restart the computer.

STEP 3

Reinstall Norton Utilities

  1. Do one of the following:

    • If you have the product CD, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, and then click Install Norton Utilities.

    • If you do not have the product CD, download the Norton Utilities 16 or Norton Utilities 15 installer file. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded.

      Make sure that you download the correct version of Norton Utilities that you have the product key for. Product key for Norton Utilities 16 does not work with Norton Utilities 15 and vice versa.

  2. Click Next.

  3. Read the License Agreement, and then click I accept the agreement. You cannot proceed to installation without accepting the License Agreement.

  4. Click Next. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. After you complete the installation, you are asked to run Smart Update. Click Next to proceed with updating Norton Utilities.
