Norton Utilities 15.0 shows the status as "System Health is Low"

To get a System Health High rating, you need to complete several product scans available in the Norton Utilities. These actions need to be completed on a regular basis to maintain a high system health rating.

STEP 1

Run a registry scan

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

    If the user account Control window appears, click Continue.

  2. Click Clean Your Registry.

    Norton Utilities scans the Windows Registry for problems.

  3. When the scan finishes, click Repair.

  4. Click Continue.

STEP 2

Add the registry key to Ignore list

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

    If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.

  2. Click Clean Your Registry.

    Norton Utilities scans the Windows Registry for problems.

  3. In the Scan Results window, right-click the registry entry which is found repeatedly in registry scan, and then click Add value to ignore list.

  4. Right-click the registry entry again, and then click Add subkey to ignore list.

  5. Repeat lines 3 and 4 for all the registry entries that are found repeatedly in the Registry Scan and which are not repaired.

  6. Click Repair.

  7. Click Continue.

STEP 3

Perform a Disk cleanup scan

  1. Click Clean Your Disks.

  2. In the Clean your Disks window, next to Clean Windows Settings, make sure the box is checked.

  3. Click Browsers.

    To include this option in your scan, next to Clean Browser Settings, make sure the box is checked.

  4. Click Plugins.

    To include this option in your scan, next to Third-Party Software, make sure the box is checked.

  5. Click Clean.

  6. Upon the scan completion, do one of the following:

    • Click Refresh to refresh your computer and automatically update Windows.

    • Click Restart to complete the cleaning process and automatically update Windows.

      You need to save all the open files, your computer will be restarted.

    • Click Continue to restart the Windows later.

      You may need to restart the open applications, including Internet Explorer to complete the cleaning process.

STEP 4

Run Disk Doctor

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

  2. On the bottom-left corner, click Maintain.

  3. In the Maintain window, click Repair your Disks.

    It will launch Norton Utilities Disk Doctor in a new window

  4. Under Disk operations, select either Repair Disk or Surface Scan.

  5. In the Volume pane, select the hard drive partition to perform the repair or surface scan

  6. Click Start.

  7. In the Norton Disk Doctor window, to schedule the scan, click Schedule for Next Restart.

  8. Restart your computer.

    Upon restart, Repair Disk or Surface Scan will automatically launch.

STEP 5

Optimize your Disk

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

    If the user account Control window appears, click Continue.

  2. Click Defragment your Disks.

  3. In the Norton Utilities - SpeedDisk window, next to the Status icon, click Optimize your Disks.

  4. Under Select an action, select Optimize Disks.

  5. On the bottom left corner, select Only perform activities when Disks are not in use.

  6. Under Select a drive, select the same hard drive partition on which you performed a Repair Drives or Surface Scan.

  7. Click Start.

  8. To optimize the disk, you need to remove existing restore points on your computer, if you agree then click Force Execute.

STEP 6

Perform Boot Time Optimization

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

    If the user account Control window appears, click Continue.

  2. Click Defragment your Disks.

  3. In the Norton Utilities - SpeedDisk window, under Status, click Boot Optimization.

  4. Under Select an action, select Optimize boot files and check Include page files.

  5. On the bottom left corner, select Only perform activities when Disks are not in use.

  6. Select Start.

  7. In the Norton SpeedDisk dialog box, do one of the following:

    • To collect the system boot statistics on the next restart, select Collect boot statistics.

    • To start the optimization process without collecting boot statistics, select Start optimization.

  8. Click Restart now or Restart later to schedule the optimization for next restart

STEP 7

Compacting Windows Registry

  1. Start Norton Utilities.

    If the user account Control window appears, click Continue.

  2. Click Defragment your Registry.

  3. In the Defragment your Registry window, select Create System Restore Point, and then click Yes.

  4. Once System Restore point is created, Norton Utilities analyzes your registry, to apply the changes, click Compact Now.

  5. In the Restart Windows dialog box, to finalize the registry compacting, click Restart.
