Error: "Norton Family will not function properly with the version of the Norton or Symantec product that is currently installed on your computer..."

This error can happen if you have an older version of Norton security product installed that is incompatible with Norton Family. To fix this problem, uninstall and reinstall Norton Family.

STEP 1

Run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool

  1. Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

    Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.

  2. To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.

  3. Double-click the NRnR icon.

  4. Read the license agreement, and click Agree.

  5. Click Advanced Options.

  6. Click Remove Only.

  7. Click Remove.

  8. Click Restart Now.

    After the computer restarts, reinstall Norton Family.

STEP 2

Reinstall Norton Family

  1. Sign in to the Norton Family website using your email address and password.

  2. On Devices tab, click Add Device.

  3. If you are on the same computer that your child uses, click Continue.

    If you want to install Norton Family on another device, click No and then click Continue.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to install on another device.

  4. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded.

  5. If you see the Open File - Security Warning message, click Run to continue.

  6. Norton Download Manager starts the download for Norton Family. When the download finishes, installation starts automatically.

  7. If you see the User Account Control prompt, click Yes to continue.

  8. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

    If you see a prompt to restart, click Restart Now and continue the installation after you restart the computer.

STEP 3

Configure Norton Family to monitor user accounts

  1. Click the Norton Family icon in the notifications area and click Edit Accounts.

  2. Type your parent email address and password and click Sign In.

  3. Next to the child profile that you want to associate the computer with, click Edit.

  4. Select signs in as, and then select the local user accounts that your child uses.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Click OK.
