Error: "Another version of a Norton or Symantec product has been detected on this computer..."

If your computer is connected to a corporate or small-business network, and if you have installed Symantec Endpoint Protection, Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, or Symantec Client Security, contact your computer administrator before installing your Norton product. If your computer is not a part of any corporate or small-business network, you can uninstall the Norton or Symantec product from your computer to install your Norton product.


Uninstall the Norton or Symantec product

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.


  3. In the list of currently installed programs, select the Norton or Symantec security product, and then click Uninstall or Remove.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.


Download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool

    If you have Norton Family installed, uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

  1. Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

    Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.

  2. To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.

  3. Double-click the NRnR icon.

  4. Read the license agreement, and click Agree.

  5. Click Remove & Reinstall.

    You may see the Remove button if your Norton product is from your service provider.

  6. Click Continue or Remove.

  7. Click Restart Now.

    After the computer restarts, follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall your Norton product.
