Error: "Setup has detected that a previous install or uninstall has been completed but requires a restart..." appears when I install a Norton product

This error appears due to a file in the Windows Temp folder, which needs to be deleted. In most cases, Windows deletes the file when the computer is restarted.

STEP 1

Restart your computer

  1. Exit all programs.

  2. Restart your computer.

If the problem persists, delete the Windows temporary files and reinstall your Norton product.

STEP 2

Delete temporary files

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    %temp%

The current user's Temp folder opens in Windows Explorer.

  3. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

  4. Press Delete.

  5. If you are asked to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

After you delete the Windows temporary files, reinstall your Norton product.
