Norton Removal Tool has expired

This problem might occur if your computer has incorrect system date and time. To fix this issue, verify the system date and time, delete the temporary files. If the issue still persists, then modify the specified registry key.

STEP 1

Correct your system date and time

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    timedate.cpl

  3. Check that the day, month, and year are correct.

    If the date is incorrect, change the calendar to the correct day, month, and year.

  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

  5. Download and run the latest version of the Norton Removal Tool to verify if the issue is resolved.

    If the problem persists, go to Step 2.

STEP 2

Delete temporary files

  1. Exit all the programs.

  2. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  3. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    %temp%

    The current user's Temp folder opens in Windows Explorer.

  4. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

  5. Press Delete.

  6. If you are asked to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

STEP 3

Download and run the latest version of the Norton Removal Tool

  1. Download the Norton Removal Tool.

    Save the file to the Windows desktop.

  2. On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  4. Restart your computer.

    If the problem persists, go to Step 4.

STEP 4

Remove a registry key

    This section has steps to modify Windows registry. Back up the registry before you make any changes, because incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the specified registry key. For instructions, read: Backing up the Windows registry.

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    regedit

    If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes or Continue.

  3. In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SymNRT\LTM

  4. Press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.

  5. Restart the computer.

  6. Run the Norton Removal Tool again.
