Norton from Symantec

Windows 8 Action Center incorrectly reports that my Norton product is turned off or there is no antivirus program installed

Under certain rare conditions, Microsoft Windows 8 shows a reporting anomaly when Norton products are installed. This anomaly which possibly affects other security products too, blocks the ability of security products to correctly report their status to the Windows Security Center.

Our extensive tests and observations reveal that the Norton products continue to work at full strength, and report their status correctly in the main Norton product window but the Windows Security Center shows conflicting information.

To fix this problem, run LiveUpdate in your Norton product.

Run LiveUpdate

  1. Start your Norton product.

  2. Depending on your Norton product, do one of the following:

    • For Norton AntiVirus or Norton Internet Security: In the main window, click LiveUpdate, and then click Run LiveUpdate..

    • For Norton 360: In the main window, click Tasks, and then click Run LiveUpdate.

    • For Norton Security: Click Security, and then click LiveUpdate.

  3. When Norton LiveUpdate is finished, click OK or Close.

  4. Run LiveUpdate until you see the message, "Your Norton product now has the latest protection updates".

  5. Exit all the programs and restart the computer.
