Turn on Norton VPN automatically on your Windows and Mac device

The Automatically Turn on VPN feature in Norton VPN safeguards your data when connecting to public networks and hides your real identity and keeps your P2P file sharing activities private.

Depending on your operating system, choose one of the following to use the Automatically Turn on VPN feature:

Windows

Depending on your product, choose one of the following:

If you are using Norton VPN Standard (version 6.x and below), you need to download and install the latest version of Norton VPN. To know more, read Download and install Norton VPN.

To know the version number of your Norton product, open your Norton app and navigate to Settings.

Norton VPN (version 24.x and above)

  1. Open Norton VPN on your desktop.

  2. On the Norton dashboard, do one of the following, depending on your VPN plan:

    • Norton VPN Standard: On the Norton dashboard, under Overview, click the VPN Preferences tab.

    • Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate: On the Norton dashboard, click Settings on the left side of the window and click the VPN Preferences tab.

  3. In the VPN Preferences tab, under Automatically turn on VPN, choose one of the following:

    • Always: VPN will turn on automatically when connecting to the Internet
    • Custom: VPN will activate based on the settings you use
  4. When you use Custom option, move the slider of the following options to turn on Automatically turn on VPN.

    • When connecting to Public networks

      The list of already visited networks with the assigned profiles is available. You can view the profiles by clicking the Gear icon next to the When connecting to Public network option.

    • When connecting P2P

Norton 360

Norton 360 (version 24.x and above)

  1. Open Norton 360 on your desktop.

  2. On the Norton dashboard, click Privacy on the left side of the window.

  3. In the Privacy window, under Secure VPN, click Open.

  4. In the Secure VPN window, click the Settings tab.

  5. In the Settings tab, under Automatically turn on VPN, choose one of the following:

    • Always: VPN will turn on automatically when connecting to the Internet
    • Custom: VPN will activate based on the settings you use
  6. When you use Custom option, move the slider of the following options to Automatically turn on VPN.

    • When connecting to Public networks

      The list of already visited networks with the assigned profiles is available. You can view the profiles by clicking the Gear icon next to the When connecting to Public network option.

    • When connecting P2P

If you are using Norton 360 (version 8.8.x and below), you need to download and install the latest version of Norton VPN. To know more, read Download and Install Norton device product on Mac.

Norton 360

  1. Open Norton 360 on your desktop.

  2. On the Norton dashboard, click Privacy on the left-side of the window.

  3. In the Privacy window, under Secure VPN, click Open.

  4. In the Secure VPN window, click the Settings tab.

  5. In the Settings tab, under Automatically turn on VPN, choose one of the following:

    • When connecting to Public or compromised networks
    • When connecting to the Internet
    • No, I will turn on manually
