Social Media Monitoring for EE Cyber Security - UK

Social media is full of great stuff, but it can be a dangerous place too. Social Media Monitoring is here to help. Social Media Monitoring which is part of your EE Cyber Security plan monitors your accounts on the most popular social media sites and notifies you of suspicious activity, like changes to your account settings, unusual logins, risky links in your posts and potentially dangerous challenges on TikTok.

When you add a social account for monitoring, Norton performs a historical review of your account for posts or comments that were made in the past 45 days or up to 200 pieces of content, whichever has come first.

If something inappropriate or risky is detected, you will get a notification on your EE Cyber Security app or portal so that you can keep your accounts safe from cybercriminals.

*Social Media Monitoring does not include monitoring of chats or direct messages. May not identify cyberbullying, explicit or illegal content, or hate speech.  On Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Snapchat only account takeover feature is available.

Learn what to do if you received a Social Media Monitoring notification

If you receive a Social Media Notification for an action that you did not initiate, such as an account takeover notification, an identity thief may be taking control of your social media account. To avoid any fraudulent or unwanted activity we recommend that you take immediate action to protect your social media accounts by doing the following:

  1. Check the person trying to connect with your account and block them if they are suspicious.
  2. Use a strong and unique password for all your social media accounts. Do not use the same password for all your accounts.
  3. Set up two-factor authentication whenever available with a website.

Steps to fix the error

This error means you may have disabled 'off-Facebook Activity'. While this feature allows you to control what website data is tracked by Facebook, it can also prevent other platforms you're integrated with from accessing the data needed to connect to your accounts.

  1. Log in to your account on the Facebook site and then click on the down arrow from the top right of the screen.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy and click on the Settings option.
  3. Now, click on Privacy from the left column and then Your Facebook Information from the left column.

Our monitoring scope for Facebook has changed

If you have linked your Facebook account under Social Media Monitoring, you will see a message of what we monitor is changing.

We will only be sending notifications for the following:
Account Takeover Protection: Your account is monitored for settings changes to notify of a potential account takeover by an identity thief. “Facebook is tightening their level of access they provide to 3rd parties like LifeLock. As part of that effort Facebook removed LifeLock’s ability to monitor user’s activity feed so inappropriate content, malware, and phishing types of notifications will no longer be available. LifeLock will still be able to monitor for account takeover scenarios so there is still great value in keeping your Facebook account linked under Social Media Monitoring.”
