How to transfer your Norton device security to a new device

Your Norton membership comes with a limited number of licenses to protect your various devices. If you have used up your licenses, you can transfer a license from an unused device to allow installation on a new device.

If your PC runs on Windows 7, use the below information:

Norton protection for Windows 7

Microsoft has formally ended the support for Windows 7. However, your Norton products will continue to support Windows 7 for the foreseeable future.

If you plan to stay on Windows 7, your Norton client security software will continue to receive the latest malware definitions by LiveUpdate, vulnerability updates, and compatibility fixes. However, your Norton client security software will no longer receive the new software updates that the supported versions of Windows (Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 Service Pack 1) will receive. For more information, see Norton protection for Windows 7 once Microsoft ends its support.

If you have purchased a new Windows 10 device and want to transfer Norton, you can follow the below instructions from your new device.

Transfer the Norton protection to a new device

  1. Sign in to Norton.

  2. In the My Norton page, under Device Security, click View Devices/Review Devices.

  3. In the Device Security page, identify the device that you no longer want to protect.

The device must appear with a green or orange status. If the device that you no longer use appears with a red or gray (inactive) status, you cannot free the license associated with that device. You must fix the issues associated with that device before you can free the license. If you cannot fix the issues, you can remove the device from your Norton account.

  4. If you do not see the device, click History link at the bottom of the device list to see your older inactive devices.

  5. Click the ellipse icon available below the device.

  6. In the menu that appears, click Manage License.

  7. In the Manage Device page, under What would you like to do, select Remove Norton, and then click Next.

  8. In the Remove Norton window that appears, click Yes.

  9. In the Install on New Device page, select one of the following, and then click Next:

    • To install Norton device security on the current device, click Install Now.

    • To install Norton device security on a different device, click Send Link.

  10. Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation. For detailed instructions, see Download Norton on your device.
