Message: "You are at risk. Your PC needs to be scanned for viruses and spyware"

This message can appear due to several reasons, and may not disappear even after you click Fix Now in Norton.

Windows XP users skip to Step 3 and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

STEP 1

Run Fix Now

  1. When you see this alert on the product, click Fix Now.

Depending on the security status of your computer, Norton will try to turn on the feature that is disabled, or try to update the definitions, or run a scan. If your subscription is expired, you will be prompted to renew the subscription.

  2. Restart the computer.

STEP 2

Run Quick Scan

  1. Start Norton.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the main window, double click Security, and then click Scans.

  3. In the Scans window, select Quick Scan and click Go.

  4. When the scan is finished, click Finish.

If the problem persists, go to Step 3.

STEP 3

Download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool

If you have Norton Family installed, uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

  1. Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.

  2. To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.

  3. Double-click the NRnR icon.

  4. Read the license agreement, and click Agree.

  5. Click Remove & Reinstall.

You may see the Remove button if Norton is from your service provider.

  6. Click Continue or Remove.

  7. Click Restart Now.

After the computer restarts, follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Norton.
