Your Norton product scans your computer from all types of viruses and unknown threats using the latest virus definitions. It also scans all the Internet activities that are performed on your computer to protect your computer from the Internet-based threats that exploit software vulnerabilities.
Your Norton product automatically performs different types of scans to secure your computer from latest threats. It also lets you run different types of scans manually to secure your computer.
Smart Scan checks security, performance, network, and privacy issues to help keep your digital life secured.
Quick Scan analyzes the whole system drive of your computer for threats.
Full Scan analyzes your entire system, including less vulnerable applications, files, and running processes.
Targeted Scan scans for malware in the files or folders that you specify.
Startup Scan scans for malware that is hard to reach after startup. This is an advanced scan designed for use when you suspect a threat in the system.
Occasionally, you might want to scan a particular file, removable drives, any of your computer's drives, or any folders or files on your computer. For example, when you work with removable media and suspect a virus, you can scan that particular disk. Also, if you have received a compressed file in an email message and you suspect a virus, you can scan that individual element. You can create custom scans based on your requirements and run the scans when you want.
You can configure your Norton product to exclude certain files and folders from Norton scans. When you add a file or folder to the exclusions list, your Norton product ignores the file or folder when it scans for security risks.
Excluding a file from the Norton scans reduces the protection level of your computer and should be used only if you have a specific need. You should only exclude items if you are confident that they are not infected.
Important: In case an excluded file gets infected in the future, the (infected) file will still remain excluded from Norton scans.
