Norton Cleaner - Getting started

Norton Cleaner helps you reclaim storage space by cleaning junk, removing residual files, and optimizing device memory.

Android

Perform a Quick Clean

Quick Clean cleans your device by removing unnecessary files to free storage space. The feature scans and lists all the item types available to clean. These item types are separated into three categories: Unneeded files, Files to review, and Hidden caches.

  1. Open Norton Cleaner.

  2. On the main Norton Cleaner screen, tap Quick Clean or Review and clean.

  3. When the scan is complete, you can view the result summary and select the item types you want to clean. Item types are divided into two sections (you may see one or both sections, depending on which data types are stored on your device):

    • Unneeded files: Data that has been carefully selected to ensure that it is truly dispensable, including thumbnails, APKS, residual files, and hidden, visible, and shared cache.

    • Files to review: Data that may not be valuable to you. We recommend reviewing items included in this group and only ticking items that are dispensable. All items are unticked by default and will not be deleted unless you manually select them.

  4. Tap Finish Cleaning to delete the selected items.

The selected items are cleaned and removed from your device.

You cannot restore files that are removed from your device. Quick Clean only removes data that is dispensable, such as system caches that can be easily replaced or APK files that are already installed.

Hibernate or uninstall apps

The Sleep Mode feature stops apps from running in the background, releasing memory for other tasks. You can also ignore apps to hide them from the list or uninstall them from your device.

  1. Open Norton Cleaner.

  2. On the main Norton Cleaner screen, tap Sleep Mode.

  3. Tick the apps you want to stop, ignore, or uninstall, and do one of the following:

    • Tap Force Stop to immediately stop the selected apps from running in the background.

    • Beside Force Stop, tap More options (the three dots) and select Ignore or Uninstall the selected apps.,

  4. Tap Proceed.

  5. Wait while Norton Cleaner hibernates, ignores, or uninstalls the selected apps, then tap the back arrow in the top-left corner to return to the main screen.

The selected apps are hibernated, ignored, or uninstalled.

Manage apps

The Apps displays an overview of the apps installed on your device, helping you free storage space by identifying apps that may be beneficial to uninstall.

  1. Open Norton Cleaner.

  2. On the main Norton Cleaner screen, tap Apps.

  3. The Apps Overview screen is divided into the following sections:

    • Drainers: Identifies apps that may be draining your data and battery.

    • Usage: Displays apps based on frequency of use. You can view Times opened, Screen time, and Unused apps.

    • Growing: Identifies apps that are occupying more space on your device than previously.

    • Notifying: Identifies apps that have sent you the most notifications in the last 7 days.

You may need to grant Norton Cleaner permission to display apps that send you most notifications. Tap Grant access > Go to Settings > Scroll down and tap Norton Cleaner. Tap the slider next to Allow notification access to turn on (blue) or off (Gray). In the warning alert, read the information, and tap Ok.

  4. Tap the back arrow in the top-left corner to navigate back to the Apps Overview screen.
