Learn more about Script Control

Script Control helps protect you from malware that you download or receive as attachments in phishing emails.

Scripts are used to make documents dynamic and interactive. They can also add functionality by automating certain tasks. Scripts can include ActiveX controls, add-ins, data connections, macros, Linked object linking and embedded OLE files, color-theme files, etc.

By default, your Norton product blocks files with unsafe scripts from being downloaded. However, you can turn off Script Control if there is a need. Turning off Script Control reduces your protection and should be done only if you have a specific need. Script Control provides an extra layer of security by helping block the execution of malicious scripts. We recommend keeping Script Control turned on at all times as it provides an extra layer of security.

Configure your Norton product to handle scripts

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, navigate to Advanced Security > Computer > Antivirus.

  4. In the Antivirus window, click the Script Control tab.

  5. In the Block Malicious Scripts row, do one of the following:

    • To turn on Script Control, slide the switch to On.

    • To turn off Script Control, slide the switch to Off.

We recommend that you keep this option turned on for maximum protection.
