You can manage all your security settings in the Advanced Security window.
The security settings are categorized as follows:
Antivirus
Provides Real-time Protection against ransomware, viruses, spyware, malware, and other online threats to your Windows computer.
Auto-Protect
Auto-Protect loads into memory and provides constant protection while you work. Auto-Protect checks for viruses and other security risks every time that you run programs on your computer. It also checks for viruses when you insert any removable media, access the Internet, or use the document files that you receive or create. It also monitors your computer for any unusual symptoms indicating an active threat.
Behavioral Protection
Behavioral Protection provides real-time protection against threats and proactively detects unknown security risks on your computer. Behavioral Protection identifies emerging threats based on the behavior of applications.
Email Protection
Norton automatically configures your email program for protection against viruses and other security threats. You can configure Email Protection to scan all incoming and outgoing emails. By scanning incoming email messages, you protect your computer against the viruses that others send to you. By scanning outgoing email messages, you do not inadvertently transmit viruses or worms to others. This way, Norton helps protect your computer against threats you might receive or send in email attachments.
Block Malicious Scripts
Script Control helps protect you from malware that you download or receive as attachments in phishing emails. Learn more about Script Control.
Exploit Prevention
Exploit Prevention helps protect programs and files that are prone to exploit attacks that compromise your security and privacy. It detects and helps block attempts to run malicious threats or processes in the system memory that can exploit vulnerable applications on your PC. Ransomware Protection
Ransomware Protection helps secure your personal photos, documents, and other files from being modified, deleted, or encrypted by ransomware attacks. For more information, see Protect your data from Ransomware threats.
Sandbox
The Sandbox feature in your Norton product lets you browse the web or run programs in a completely isolated, safe environment. This feature is useful when running suspicious or untrusted programs without worrying about the risk. For more information, see Open unsafe and untrusted files and programs in Sandbox.
Smart Firewall
Smart Firewall monitors the network traffic between your PC and the outside world to help protect you from unauthorized communication and intrusions. This feature is designed to require minimal input from you. To ensure you have protection, all you need to do is keep Smart Firewall enabled. Intrusion Prevention
Intrusion Prevention helps protect you from malicious attacks when you are online. It scans the network traffic that enters and exits your computer and checks for attack signatures that could exploit vulnerabilities in your operating system or a program you use. Safe Web
Safe Web is designed to proactively check and block online threats and malware from being downloaded as you browse the Internet.
Web Scanning
Scans for malicious websites while you browse the Internet. These websites detect and exploit the vulnerabilities in your web browser and download malware programs to your computer without your consent or knowledge.
Download Intelligence
Helps protect your computer against unsafe files you download. Download Intelligence provides information about the reputation level of executable files you download using the browser. The reputation details that Download Intelligence provides indicate whether the downloaded file is safe to install. You can use these details to decide whether to run the executable file.
