What information can my Internet service provider (ISP) and websites see when I use Norton Secure VPN?

When you use Norton Secure VPN, your data is encrypted so that your Internet service provider (ISP) can see only the amount of traffic passing through their servers and not the encrypted data.
If you do not use Norton Secure VPN, your ISP can see what websites you are viewing, your emails, IM chats and any files that you download or upload. The websites that you visit can see the browser you use, the operating system of your device, and your location.

Block Ad Trackers

Each mobile device has a unique advertising ID which may be used to track your details like name, address, and age. Advertising IDs may be used by app developers to create targeted advertisements that are relevant to you. The Ad Tracking feature in Norton Secure VPN protects you and blocks targeted advertisements.

Android or iOS

  1. Open Norton Secure VPN.

  2. Tap the Ad Tracker icon at the bottom of the screen.

  3. In the Ad Tracker screen, slide Block Ad Trackers to enable or disable Ad Trackers.

Ad Tracker blocking works only when Virtual Private Network is turned on.

  1. Open Norton Secure VPN app on your desktop.

  2. Click the Settings icon at the top of the Norton Secure VPN app and click Ad Tracker Blocking.

  3. Under Ad Tracker Blocking, slide Block Ad Trackers to enable or disable Ad Trackers.

  1. Open Norton Secure VPN app on your desktop.

  2. Click the Settings icon on the left-side of the Norton Secure VPN app.

    In the My Norton window, click the drop-down arrow next to Secure VPN and click Ad Tracking.

  2. Click the drop-down next to Secure VPN.

  3. Click Open.

What is Kill Switch?

Kill Switch blocks or kills your internet connection should the VPN get disconnected. This helps maintain the privacy of your IP address (key to identifying your location and online activities) and other personal information should the VPN connection drop.

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

    If you see the My Norton window, next to Secure VPN, from the drop-down menu, select Settings.

  2. In the Settings window, next to Kill Switch, move the slider to enable the feature.

  1. Open Norton Secure VPN app on Windows.

  2. Click the Settings icon at the top of the app.

  3. In the General tab, next to Kill Switch, move the slider to enable the feature.

Norton Secure VPN app on Mac

Mac OS 12 or below

  1. On your Mac home screen, click on the Apple menu and click System Settings.

  2. In the pop-up window that appears, click Network on the left side of the screen.

  3. In the Network window, under Other Services, click Norton.

  4. In the Norton window, toggle Connect on demand to enable the feature.

  5. Click Apply.

Mac OS 13

  1. On your Mac home screen, click on the Apple menu and click System Settings.

  2. In the System Settings window, click VPN on the left-side of the screen.

  3. In the VPN window, next to Norton, click the Sample alt text icon.

  4. In the pop-up that appears, on the right pane, toggle Connect on demand to enable the feature.

  5. Click Ok.

Android

  1. In your Norton Secure VPN app, tap the menu icon, and tap Settings.
  2. In the Settings page, next to Kill Switch, move the slider to enable the feature.

What is Wi-Fi Security?

Wi-Fi Security in Norton Secure VPN scans the wireless network that your device is connected to in order to detect common network threats such as man-in-the-middle attacks. This feature is available only on Android and iOS platforms.

In order to scan your Wi-Fi network, you need to allow Secure VPN access to your device's location. We will not save your location information, nor use it to track you.

What is Split Tunnel?

The Split Tunnel feature in Norton Secure VPN lets you securely direct and encrypt your choice of apps by selecting the traffic you wish to exclude from Secure VPN.

I have Norton 360 app on Windows

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

    If you see the My Norton window, next to Secure VPN, from the drop-down menu, click Settings.

  2. In the Settings window, next to Split Tunnel, click the icon.

  3. In the Split Tunnel window, move the slider to enable the feature.

    In the App Excluded section, click Add and select the application that you want to exclude from the Secure VPN traffic.

  4. In the alert message that you receive, click OK.

    The newly selected apps will be excluded from your Secure VPN traffic when you turn on VPN next time.

    The alert message appears only when Secure VPN is turned on in Norton 360.

I have Norton Secure VPN app on Windows

  1. Open Norton Secure VPN app on Windows.

  2. Click the Settings icon , at the top of the app and then click Split Tunnel.
  3. In the Split Tunnel page, move the slider to enable Exclude apps from your Secure VPN traffic.

  4. Click Add an Application.

    In the Add Another Application window, select the application that you want to exclude from the Secure VPN traffic and click Open.

  5. Click TURN ON VPN.

I have an Android device

  1. Open Secure VPN.

  2. Tap the menu icon , on the top left of the screen and tap Settings.
  3. In the Settings screen, move the slider to enable Split Tunneling.

  4. To exclude an app, tap Exclude Apps under Split Tunneling.

  5. In the Exclude Apps screen, click to select the apps that you want to exclude from Secure VPN traffic.

    Turn off VPN and turn it on again to apply the changes made for Split Tunneling.

What is Auto-Connect VPN?

The Auto-connect VPN feature helps to re-connect automatically when the Secure VPN connection drops.

What is Launch at Startup?

The Launch at Startup feature loads the Norton Secure VPN services whenever the system boots.

You need to connect manually to Norton Secure VPN after launching the app if the Auto-Connect feature is in disabled state.
